The movie is about a domestic worker in the United Kingdom who becomes overwhelmed with her new job and starts to abuse her employers. Ray is not happy when his wife hires Lucy, claiming she needs someone around who can watch their son, Milo. However, Lucy does not fit in with Ray's family and Milo begins to resent her for being different from his mother. The tension mounts as the domestics' work slows down and Lucy starts cutting herself to cope with being ignored at home. One night, part of a cutting session leads to a series of events that ends up killing both of them. Helen is a Chinese international student from Beijing, who learns English from a tutor. Once she gains the language skills she needs to stay in London for her doctorate, she decides to live with a host family in order to improve her language skills. Through a series of events, Helen is placed with a very peculiar family: a cocky policeman called Nick and his wife, Donna. Along with their two eccentric children, Milo and Charlie they try to integrate Helen into the family dynamic. During the course of Helen's stay in the UK, she befriends another international student from China named Lucy. The two of them hit it off instantly because they both have jobs as domestic helpers for different families in London. They become best friends and Helen feels that Lucy has a lot to teach her about being a British citizen. Lucy comes from a small village in China called Qionglai. After her parents died, she was forced to work as a domestic helper for an American couple named Kelly and Ray who take care of their son Milo. When Lucy first arrives in UK, she is very distant from the other girls at the home because she only speaks English and does not understand any of their slang or expressions. Although she is young, she is very strict with the other girls due to their language barrier. She teaches them aspects of Chinese culture through Chinese moves and regular lessons. The girls are very upset when Lucy is taken by the Kelly family. Lucy becomes depressed since her family is now gone. She resorts to self-harming, which she doesn't even realize she has been doing until one night at home, Milo comes upon her in the bathroom cutting herself. Milo becomes very worried about Lucy, and brings her into his room to talk about what is wrong with her. At that moment, Milo tells Lucy that he feels like she has become his mother instead of their own mother who died when they were young. The story ends at the same time as the film does, with both Lucy and Milo teaching each other words of kindness and love by grooming each other's hair. The film was given a limited release on 9 April 2014 through Curzon Artificial Eye. As of 15 May 2014, it has a score of 60% with a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 11 reviews.
